Like most people, I hate feeling rushed in the morning. The more I can get accomplished at night, the calmer my mornings can be and the more time I can spend with my little one before I’m out the door to work. So once my baby goes to sleep, my evenings consist of power cleaning and prepping for the next day.

PIZZA PARTY IN THE PARK

We were so excited when we discovered our little city offers a beautiful wood-fired community oven surrounded by a bountiful garden and orchard. With our picnic blankets packed, we caramelized our shallots, shredded our mozzarella, sliced our mushrooms, seasoned our sauce, rolled our dough and headed to the Park Avenue Community Oven (PACO) for a pizza party al fresco. (When we say we, we mean Jacqueline’s husband Craig Flinn, but you better believe we were there for moral support and official taste testing!)

That means July has become a pretty special month for our family and we’ve been busy planning fun and festive first birthdays for our little ones. Going back to work after maternity leave can be a challenge. Not just practically, but emotionally. For the past year, I spent almost every waking minute with my little one and I loved it. As maternity leave started winding down I began having some anxiety about pumping at work. I work in a traditional office setting and I had concerns about how conducive it would be to my pumping regime.

My little boy recently turned a year old and to celebrate this momentous occasion, we turned Lindsay’s backyard into a carnival fit for a (little) king! My inspiration was Jillian Harris’ birthday party for her adorable son Leo. I read and re-read her blog post showcasing fun décor, yummy treats and smiling faces. I knew I had to do something similar for my own baby boy.
